Attempted Burglary |
||
|
Dear Resident
On Tuesday 7th July at around 20:10 an attempted burglary took place on Stanborough Avenue.
The suspect has walked into the victims' front garden initially and climbed over their garden gate. They are then believed to have begun entering the victims' open kitchen door, where their dog has started barking. The suspect has been scared off by this and has made off on foot over the victim's back fence, into gardens on Thirsk Road. There has then been a possible sighting of him going into Aycliffe Road park. Officers responded including a dog unit however a suspect could not be located.
The suspect is described a black male, bald head, wearing a dark vest top, dark shorts with a backpack. If you saw anybody matching this description around this time, or have any CCTV or doorbell footage of a male matching this description, please let us know.
If you have any information relating to this crime you can click the reply button at the bottom of the email, or by contacting the police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime number 41/64014/26.
Alternatively, you can give information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
In this instance, it is possible the suspect was an opportunist looking to take advantage of people having doors and and windows open in the warm weather. Please try to avoid having windows and doors open if you are not in the room, especially if they are ground-level or easily accessible for would-be burglars - I know this is easier said than done in this heat!
You can tell us what issues are of concern to you by completing this survey:
Tips to prevent burglary:
Check downstairs windows and doors are securely locked before you leave or go to bed. Secure UPVC doors by lifting the handle and locking it to engage the security features. Don’t leave keys, phones or other valuables on windowsills or in any other visible place. Securely lock rear gates, sheds and garages. Keep tools and ladders locked away, as they could be used to break into your home. Use laminate glass where possible for any rear doors or windows. If this is not practicable, consider the use of security film over existing windows. Use a “Fake TV” or timer switches on lamps to give the impression someone is at home. Consider using a doorbell camera, interior camera, or a monitored burglar alarm. Consider adding trellis to any side or rear boundaries to add extra height up to a maximum of 2 metres.
Please be vigilant and do report any suspicious activity or behaviour in the area. If you need to report a crime please call 101 or go online here.
